I recently made these faceted gift boxes for Mother’s Day and wanted to make some coordinating cards and candy.  Stampin’ Up English Garden DSP is beautiful watercolored paper.  It is retiring May 31.  You can purchase it here.

One set is for my Mom and one set is for Superman’s Mom.

The candy is Hershey’s Nuggets Milk Chocolate with Toffee & Almonds in the gold wrapper.  I wrapped them in 1″ x 3″ strips of DSP.  I was going to add a flower on the top, but this paper is so stunning I didn’t want to cover it up.

I had a sweet birthday yesterday and will write a separate post to show you all the homemade cards I received.  I even received cards from some of you, including a beautiful card from Audrey and a sweet email from my stamping BSF friend, Ruth, who I also met through this blog.  Superman and I had a nice lunch out at Fire Creek.  They have the best tomato basil soup! For dinner I made a healthier version of one of my favorite meals called Ziti Cucina.  I really enjoyed all the birthday wishes at Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and on Facebook.  One of the sweet gals in my BSF group, Crystal, made Revelation verse cards for each week of the study and gave them to every gal in our group today. Best gift ever!  Sweet daughter Abby made the most delicious carrot cake!  She actually went over the top this year.  She bought me beautiful Gerber daisies, pretty silver earrings, and a big bag of Blue Raspberry Jolly Ranchers. I love that girl!  Sean called me and sent Facebook wishes.  Ryan and Keegan bought me a pretty pot for my deck.  Keegan also gave me more than the one required hug per day!  I’ll take as many hugs as I can get from my awesome 15 year old.  I love my family!

A lot of my friends have April birthdays.  I can’t tell you who this one is for.  Is it going to show up in your mailbox?

These flowers are great at giving a card a lot of dimension.  Botanical Builder Framelits are a must have item!

#imbringingbirthdaysback By the end of the week, all my April birthday cards will be sent.  Better late then never. 🙂

Speaking of birthdays, Super Man surprised me with my birthday present yesterday.

planter

It’s a black iron planter.  They have these all over downtown Des Moines.  He drilled down into the tree stump to level it.  By next weekend it will be full of beautiful flowers.  I love it!  I actually got two smaller iron planters for Mother’s Day a couple years ago.

We made it through the bike ride yesterday with no incidents, but Super Man’s leg had a run in with the planter as he was installing it today, requiring ice and band aids.

steve on bike april2016

The is Super Man in Water Works park yesterday. Yes, he’s a serious biker.  He started doing triathlons last year at age 51, after losing 50 lbs.  A friend asked why I call him Super Man.  He’s a humble, godly man who tries everyday to do what God is calling him to do.  He’s a wonderful (not perfect of course, none of us are) husband and father.  He’s smart, funny, and really kind.  He likes to make guacamole for me. (Not the most important thing…but definitely a perk!) He’s been my best friend since we were 12 years old and he’s been there with me through all the ups and downs of life.  We are celebrating our 30 year wedding anniversary on May 31.  There’s no one I would rather do life with.  For all these reasons and more, Steve really is my Super Man.  I hope all of you have a Super Man too.  Give him a hug, life is short.

Here’s our selfie in front of a beautiful crab apple tree.  The whole park was full of beautiful blooming trees.

Pat wrote and asked if Super Man cleaned the garage yet?  The answer is not yet.  Stay tuned, I’m confident he’ll hold up his end of the bargain.  Remember he’s wonderful, not perfect. 🙂

Blessings,

Beth 🙂

Directions for Kate Spade inspired gift card set

The cards in this gift box are not the standard A2 size.  They are what Stampin’ Up! calls Note Card size.  The cards are 5″ x 3 1/2″ and the envelopes are 5 1/8″ x 3 5/8″.  You need to purchase these from Stampin’ Up! or cut your cards yourself and use the Envelope Punch Board to make the envelope.  You can purchase the Note Cards by clicking here or Envelope Punch Board here.  This size does work for mailing.

Kate Spade inspired gift card set designed by StampinUp demo Beth McCullough. Please see my blog for directions to make the box stampingmom.com/... #StampingMom This box is not sized for standard A2 cards. Theses are note cards 5" x 3 1/2" with envelopes 5 1/8" x 3 5/8"

You can get both piece A and B cut from one 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock.

Cut the cardstock for piece A at 7 1/4 x 12. Score at 1/2′”and 1″ on all four sides. You fold at the 1/2″ score line with the end tab piece in between the two side layers and then fold at the 1″ score line.  The sides of the box are a double layer of card stock.  Please let me know if you have any questions about how to fold this box together. You need a strong adhesive.  I’m using Stampin’ Up Tear & Tape.  You can buy the Tear & Tape here.

You are basically making “mountains” on the front side of this piece to have a separation between the cards, envelopes and sentiment tags.

The yellow piece is in the picture just so you can see the Window Sheet on top of it. The box is 10 inches long so you do the scoring on the 12 inch side.  If you don’t have 12 x 12 Window Sheets which are available in my Stampin’ Up store, click here, you can also use adhesive to combine two Transparency sheets and cut them down to a 10 x 11 1/2 size.

I wrapped the box with a piece of Night of Navy ribbon.  I thought about adding a tag, but instead added a “thank you” tag on the top card.  This is a hostess gift for my sweet friend,Janene , who hosted our family for Easter.I can’t wait to make some more gift card sets!

I’d love it if you would leave me a comment or question at the top of this post and subscribe to my blog.

You can pin the pictures to your Pinterest board, showing the directions in case you want to make a gift set in the future.  I’ll also have the directions pinned on my board, “How to Make Simple Card and Gifts.” click here

crab apple

The Des Moines area has beautiful crab apple trees in colors of pink, white and red  that bloom every April.  Water Works park has hundreds or thousands of these trees.  Super Man and I are going on a bike ride this afternoon to see the trees and I’ll probably take some pictures.  Abby heard what we were doing and packed us a picnic lunch.  What a sweetie!  Hopefully tomorrow’s blog post won’t have a story about a biking mishap!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Blessings,

Beth 🙂
