Pop Up Gift Card Holder with flowers
Do you ever make more than one version of the card you’re creating? I seem to need to make a warm up card to start out simple and also to learn from the mistakes I make. Abby needed a gift card holder for her teacher’s birthday and below is the warm up card she ended up with.
Her teacher isn’t a stamper and didn’t expect anything, so hopefully she was thrilled with her gift and didn’t notice my mistakes.
Here’s what I learned from making the warm up card:
The embossing buddy is my friend and I will use it every time I do heat embossing.
I didn’t use it on the teacher’s card and it looks messy around the “Happy Birthday” with stray specks of white all over. If you take the embossing buddy and rub it on the cardstock before you start the embossing process, you have no stray specks and a much neater product. The best part is the Embossing Buddy #103083 is only $6.
I also didn’t think the card had enough stripes on it. I was using this week’s Global Design Project #GP070 and it had a lot more stripes than my first card.
A rule of thumb I try to follow is to have every color on the card show up at least twice. I think the first card I made looks a little boring and the second card pops a bit more.
Teacher Card #1 Stamping Friend Card #2
I left a border of purple down the sides on Card #2. I also switched to the sentiment in the Birthday Bright set in the new Occasions catalog.
The second Pop Up Gift Card Holder was made for one of my stamping friends.
Do you like Card #2 better too? I hope I’m not the only one who sometimes needs to make a card more than once.
We’ve had a fun weekend. Friday night Ryan came home from college and the five of us went to the movie, Hidden Figures. It was super good and we all loved it! The audience clapped at the end and that doesn’t happen too often. If you haven’t seen it, you might want to do so. Saturday, Abby had an archery tournament out of town and Keegan was busy sacking groceries at Fareway. Superman had time to paint the basement bathroom. The tile guys finished up on Thursday. When the basement flooded in December the floor was ruined. I really like this new floor a lot better than the old one. I want to take down the pictures in Sean’s room, remove his stuff and create a real guest room in the basement. Sean graduated from high school in 2009 and we still have his bedroom the way it was when he left home. Sorry Sean, but when you come home in May you won’t recognize your bedroom!
Blessings,
Beth 🙂
