I have lived in Iowa all of my life, the heartland of the USA. To be clear, in the DSP you see mountains, but in Iowa there are no mountains, only rolling hills and lots of farm country.

For National Pet Day our Inspo List includes dogs, cats, birds and fish. My family has had two sweet pups for the last 16 years and my sweet Molly was the best dog of a lifetime! We had a very special bond like I’ve never known before. My pups are trained Therapy Dogs and are 10lb black and white fluff balls, Bichon-Shih Tzu mixes, otherwise known as Teddy Bear dogs. Maya is still with us and Molly passed away about three months ago. Steve wants to get another puppy, but I’m not sure I can do that anytime soon.

This is my sweet Molly. She always wore purple and spent her entire day by my side. Here she is sitting in the chair beside me as I work at the computer. She always looked at me like “here I am, what do you want me to do next?”

In the Inspo List we didn’t list cows, rabbits, pigs or chickens. When you grow up in Iowa your pet may be any of those. I grew up participating in 4-H and showing steers at the fair. Steve and I met when we were 12 and he sometimes come too our house for dinner during. We always named our steers, including Mork and Mindy. At one dinner, my family started talking about whether we were eating Mork or Mindy. Steve was horrified and wanted to flee! How could we possibly be eating our pets? Steve was a town kid and didn’t understand that it’s just what we did. After that my family was careful not to discuss who we were eating during dinner.

My little sister, Jenn, raised rabbits and she encountered similar dinner difficulties. All this to say, I felt comfortable making an Iowa farm scene for National Pet Day, because farm animals were our pets. Please leave me a comment and tell me about your pets.

It’s time for another Festive Friday Challenge!  I’m part of the Design Team for Festive Friday and this week’s challenge #FF0131 is National Pet Day which is April 11th.

What a fabulous farm scene you created Beth – I love that it stands up as an easel too, it really sets it off. Any animal that is loved and cared for can be considered a pet I think – I loved reading about your childhood days!

Beth, what a fabulous little farm scene you have created. It reminds me of a drive around Minnesota! This made me smile. As did your photo of sweet Molly. What a gorgeous little face. It’s always so hard when we lose a beloved pet.

What a cute little farm scene! Love the story of Mork and Mindy, luckily it must not have scared Steve too much!

Super adorable farm card. Love the look of the easel card. Your sweet Molly is so cute. I have three girls but only one will sit in my craft room with me while I craft. A second one will come in and steal my pens and markers. LOL!
