Shaving Cream Stenciling

We do five projects per month for the Creative Crew on Splitcoast Stampers (SCS) .  This challenge CCREW917TECH was to choose a technique from the SCS Tutorials Section and make a card using the technique.    I followed the Shaving Cream Stenciling tutorial by Lydia Fiedler. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/re…eamstenciling/ I typically like to do clean and simple projects, but this one was so much fun, I will definitely do it again.  I had to raid Sean’s bathroom to find white shaving cream.  The rest of my guys use a blue gel that wouldn’t work for this technique.

Speaking of Sean, Steve and I had the joy of going to Seattle to spend a long weekend with Sean and celebrate his 27th birthday!  The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful time.

We got to tour Microsoft where Sean works as a software engineer.  They have a beautiful campus with a museum, company store, and great eating places.

Here’s Sean in his office.  They do everything paperless and even the file cabinet was empty.  He’s been in this office almost a year and there are no pictures or decorations.  Notice the juggling balls on the desk?  He learned to juggle in PE in junior high.  Ever since, when he needs to figure out a difficult problem he just stands up and starts juggling and figures things out.  It appears to me, Sean only requires a good computer and a nice set of juggling balls and he can be effective at his job! 🙂

Sean took us to an outdoor festival and they had a giant size Connect Four game.  I spent hours playing the smaller version of this game with each of my four kids as they were growing up.  Who knew it would pay off?  I beat Sean three games in a row and then beat Steve.  After that no one wanted to play with me, so Sean installed a Connect Four app on my phone so I’d have someone else to beat.

Here’s a selfie we took while waiting to go up in the Space Needle.

I found this rock at the top of the outer deck of the Space Needle. On the back of the rock it said #JCPR on Facebook.  We looked it up and found out in Junction City, Oregon the kids and parents are painting hundreds of rocks and hiding them for people to find.  They ask you to post a pic on Facebook and hide it somewhere else and they are tracking where the rocks travel.  After I posted my pic, I found out a young lady named Sophie had painted the rock and her uncle had helped her weather seal it.  Sophie and her uncle had plans to go to the Space Needle together, but her uncle was tragically killed in a car accident a couple weeks ago.  Nevertheless, the rock found its way to the Space Needle.  God works in mysterious ways.  There’s more to the story, but I’m very touched and have a new friend in Oregon.  Please help me pray for Sophie as she heals from the death of her uncle.

We took a ferry to Bainbridge Island which was beautiful with quaint shops.  We ate a delicious dinner at Doc’s Marina Grill.

The last morning we were there was Sean’s actual birthday so we went to brunch at Lot No. 3 to celebrate.  This is the best cinnamon roll I’ve ever eaten.  The egg and avocado dish was awesome too!

I brought Sean Scotcheroos to take to work and share with his co-workers.  If you are a Paper Pumpkin subscriber keep your boxes, because almost the entire 9 x 13 pan of Scotcheroos fit in two layers in the Paper Pumpkin box.

Blessings,

Beth 🙂

Painted Harvest

I have exciting news today.  I’ve been asked to be a designer for the Splitcoast Stampers Creative Crew!  I’ve been praying that I would get on another design team, but was shocked when I got the email. 🙂  I get to design five projects each month for Sept-Dec. 2017. The best part is all of you can play along.

The first challenge was to create a Clean and Simple (CAS) project of your choosing with nature and fall in mind. Then create a second project, amped up with more enrichments, additions, layers, really step it up.

I used Cherry Cobbler, Crushed Curry and Crumb Cake (dots).  The Painted Harvest stamp set is so easy to use and very versatile.

On the second card I “stepped it up” by fussy cutting a flower and popping it up on a dimensional with Linen Thread behind it.  I also added Linen thread to the banner.  I used Clear Emboss Powder and heat embossed the sentiment.  That always looks cool in real life.  I doubt you can tell by the picture.  I also added a Crushed Curry layer on the card.  The envelope looks cute with the flower in the corner.

My Irish twins!  I love this picture! This was the first day of Kindergarten for Keegan and First Grade for Abby.  If you look close you can see there are pink beads crocheted to Abby’s socks.  My sweet Grandma, Grandma Olson, taught me how to crochet well enough that I could add beads to Abby’s socks to match her outfits.  I was so thrilled to have a girl that I did crazy things like crocheting beads on socks and making handmade hair pieces to go on Abby’s ponytail or pigtails.  Wow, I miss those days.  I thought I’d give you an update on Abby.  She loves being at college.  She’s made lots of great friends, found a church and youth group she likes, gets along great with her room mate, and loves her classes, especially Organic Chemistry.  There’s even a cute boy I hear about from time to time. I get texts from her that say, “I’m so happy” and “I love Organic Chemistry!”  A few months ago I couldn’t imagine not seeing and talking to Abby everyday.  Today it is easier knowing that she is doing what she loves and is in a very good place.  I pray things continue to go well for Abby and she thrives at college and stays safe.

Steve just came in to see what I was up to.  I showed him the Irish Twin picture and we both got tears in our eyes.  I’m not sure we are ready to be emptynesters. 🙂

Speaking of my Superman, (husband Steve), he got his best time ever in his Sprint Triathlon last weekend.  He was pleased and decided he wants to do triathlons again next summer.  His goal is to get a medal (top 3) in his age division.  He’s gotten fourth or fifth a few times during the last three summers but never has made it to the medal stand.  Three years ago he lost 50lbs and did his very first triathlon.

Anything but the Holidays Blog Hop

My Mom has been a quilter for as long as I can remember.  She made quilts for each of my kids when they were little and again each one got a quilt when they graduated from high school.  When I saw the Christmas Quilt Bundle in the new 2017-18 Holiday catalog, I knew I would purchase it and use it year round, not just for Christmas.  My paper quilts are quick and easy, while my Mom’s quilts take months to create.

I enjoy making 3×3 cards and envelopes to give as gift sets.  My colors are Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight.

Don’t you love these new Mini Pizza Boxes on page 44 of the Holiday catalog?! You get 8 boxes for only $6.  These are food safe.  Since Superman (my husband Steve) loves making fudge for Christmas gifts, I ordered extras to decorate for this year’s fudge boxes.  You can also use them to give cookies, 3×3 cards, gift cards, jewelry and more.
