Marcelyn Mondays

I’ve shown you so many pictures in the past of creations made by my dear friend and team mate, Marcelyn Churchill, that we’ve decided she needs her own “day.”  These are some of Marcelyn’s creations that I’ve shown you in the past.

I thought you’d like to get to know more about Marcelyn. When she was young, everyone had to create their own fun and Marcelyn used much of her free time making crafts. Marcelyn was married to Clayton for 44 years and they were blessed with three sons.  In the 1980’s she took up tole painting.  She cut all the wood herself with a band saw.  Marcelyn sold her projects at craft fairs.  Most items in her home are all handcrafted.
Marcelyn worked full time for many years until retiring from Mid American Energy in 1992.  She and Clayton hit the road and spent several winters traveling to the southwest and west.   While in Texas, she was taught how to do card stitching.  Due to Clayton’s health issues they had to end their winter traveling and Marcelyn took up quilt making.  Many of the quilts were made for missions.  Twelve years ago Marcelyn became a widow.
Marcelyn has served on several committees for her church and participated in the choir and bell choir.  Six years ago she found Stampin’ Up! and was hooked.  She has so much fun coming up with new cards and crafty projects to give as gifts.  Marcelyn enjoys making treat boxes for the organizations she belongs to at church and also her BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) groups.  Recently after giving a card and gift to a church friend, she received an order to make 25 Christmas cards!
Papercrafting brings Marcelyn much joy and she also spreads joy to all the people who receive her cards and gifts!  Marcelyn has two living sons and five grandchildren.  Marcelyn has been a Stampin’ Up demo for four years.  It would be sweet if you left a comment for Marcelyn telling her which project if your favorite or if you’d like to contact her directly, her email is marcelynchurchill@msn.com

Wednesday I showed up with my pups, Maya and Molly, to volunteer for an hour of therapy dogs in memory care and assisted living. Much to my surprise I was greeted by an elf who resembled my Dad.
Dad and Maya, our therapy dog.
For six years Abby and I took Maya and Molly to volunteer as therapy dogs every other week.  When Abby left for college I had to recruit someone else to help me.  Dad had already filled in when Abby spent the summer at our church camp being a counselor in 2016, so he was happy to step in again.  Dad enjoys working with Maya, our ten year old teddy bear dog ( The cross breed between a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tzu is commonly known as a Shichon,  or teddy bear dog).  As you can see in the picture Dad and Maya are a great team!
Here’s Dad with his fellow elfs and Father Noel (Santa Claus).  They greet all the children who come to the Christmas party including resident’s grandchildren and employee’s children. They also hand out bonus checks to all the employees, so they are pretty popular.  Father Noel is 99 years old.  He told Dad he is retiring and shaved off his beard the morning after the party.  He also asked my Dad to be the next Father Noel.  My Mom is not a fan of Dad growing a beard.  I’ll let you know if he stays an elf for next year’s Christmas party or accepts his promotion to Father Noel!
Blessings,
Beth 🙂

Friends of Stamping Mom Friday Feature

I’m starting a new feature called Friday Friends of Stamping Mom.  I’m very blessed to receive cards, gifts and pictures of projects made by friends, other demos and blog readers (who become my friends 🙂 .   I have quite a backlog of wonderful projects that I often forget to post, so I’m going to be very intentional and post these lovely projects on as many Fridays as I can.  I’m starting with cards and gifts I received this week and working backward, so if you sent me something, hopefully you’ll see it in the next couple weeks.  I want you to know I appreciate and treasure everything I receive!

This beautiful candle was made with the Night in Bethlehem Edgelit Dies by demo Kathy Winter.  The light flickers and it is stunning in real life! Kathy’s business Facebook page is Skunk River Creations.

Kathy makes all kinds of beautiful creations! Thanks Kathy!

I wish you could see this card in real life.  There is glitter in the center of the flowers and it’s such a pretty card.

Deb made this with the retired Pyramid Pals Thinlits.  I believe she saw a version of this on Pinterest.  I love how Deb’s version turned out!  Thanks Deb! Three of my kids are singers and it just made me smile when I saw this. 🙂

Speaking of singing, here’s This is “Christmastime” (by Michael W. Smith and Joanna Carlson), the final song at Heartland Youth Choir’s WinterSongs concert last Sunday. Conductor: Barbara Sletto. Accompanist: Kathy Gedler.  Keegan is in the back row from the left- the first tall guy.

I’m hoping you’ll do me a favor. I entered a diffuser decorating contest. (Yes, I am crafty and I enjoy using Young Living Essential Oils.) Would you be willing to go to this Facebook page , scroll down to the Dec 12 post and click on my picture, Silent Night, ( village and church with the snow flakes)  second picture down on the right side.  After you click on the picture, please click the “like” button, which would get me a vote in the contest. Thanks for your help! Merry Christmas!  I’ll let you know if I win. 🙂

The layers of snow are made with glimmer paper. The trees are green and the buildings are white. This also is pretty cool in real life!

Tomorrow I get to pick Abby up from college and bring her home.  Oh happy day, happy day!
