My heart is breaking and my sweet daughter couldn’t be happier. I guess that’s how it’s intended to be. We are dropping Abby off at college today. She will be a four hour round trip away, which I know doesn’t seem too far for those of you who have kids across the country or across the world, but for me it’s a lot farther than having her tucked in her bedroom for the last 18 years.
Superman (my husband Steve) printed off some Tiger Hawks for the envelope liner. Abby loved the Cubs Baby
Bear that we made for little Mr. Finnegan last week, so I knew she would love her own Hawkeye Baby Bear.
So where’s Abby’s matching Hawkeye gift bag you might be asking? Well, we spent all the Abby money last week “back to college” shopping, so Abby just got the card filled with more advice from her Mom. I had 18 years to teach her and tell her everything she needed to know, but I keep thinking of more things I need to tell her.
Lynn Tague, my good friend and stamping team member dropped off this cute card and an adorable Hawkeye hot/cold cup and Hawkeye coaster. How sweet is that?! I wish I had a picture of the cup and coaster. Abby immediately washed the cup and added them to the already packed car. Thanks so much, Lynn, for making Abby smile!
Saturday night we took Abby to her favorite restaurant, Latin King, went to church one last time and visited Abby’s grandparents to say good bye. Grandma also had an adorable pillow case she made for Abby’s body pillow, to match her quilt.
There’s nothing left to do but drive to college, haul the stuff upstairs and try to leave without sobbing.

God is good. I have had more peace this week then I ever thought possible. Abby is happy and making friends. I also noticed she has two campus ministries on her calendar for next week, which makes me very happy.

Oh my word, I’m an Iowa alum and come from a huge Hawkeye loving family. I simply ADORE your Hawkeye (and Cubs) cards! Where did your hubby find the tiger hawk paper? Would he share the link? Also, I just moved my daughter to Cedar Rapids this weekend. She’s going to be a 5th grade teacher in that school district. She hopes to start her masters degree at Iowa next year. At least the drive is doable in a day and not clear to one of the coasts. But, I know it is still hard. Love the card. Mike will have to make me or show me how to make that tiger hawk paper. I did find a tiger hawk stamp on Etsy for his birthday. What dorm is she in?
I was once told that we raised them right if they want to leave home! Hard to accept when you are missing them so.
The road home from college campuses is called “a trail of tears” for a reason…B!
This breaks my heart to read. It has been 12 years since we took our one and only to drop off at college, a three hour drive each way, and it was the hardest day ever. I send loving thoughts and prayers to you and a reminder to stay strong and ask The Lord to help you make it through. It is difficult, I know, but remember, this is what we raise our children to do.
